Warren J. George, a retired Melrose Firefighter, passed away at the Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages, Florida on December 6, 2017. He was 73 years of age. Warren was born and raised in Malden and graduated from Malden Vocational School. He was a resident of Melrose for 39 years before moving to Florida 7 years ago. Mr. George joined the Melrose Fire Department in 1969, worked on the department for 34 years before retiring as a Lieutenant in 2002. While working on the fire department, Warren also worked at Wakefield Brake for 18 years and then ran his own business "George's Painting Company" for many years. Warren was a huge New England Patriots fan and loved playing fantasy football as well as his weekly lottery numbers. He was a former member of the Wyoming Lodge of Masons in Melrose, loved going to the beach and taking trips to York Beach Maine. For 20+ years Warren and his wife enjoyed their annual trip to Aruba, where they formed many special friendships. But above all else, his love for his family was most important to him. Warren is the beloved husband of 52 years to Nancy M. (Hagen) George. Loving father of Kimberly A. Bonin & her husband Michael of Newton, NH, Diana M. Grigoreas & her husband Bill of Farmington, NH and Kevin D. George & his wife Donna of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Deena Meehan, Katelyn Bonin, Joshua Bonin & Andrew Joseph George. Proud great grandfather of Aydin, Giovanni & Josiah. Caring brother of Lawrence George, Nancy Barbuto, Marcia Eddy, the late Lydia Barbrick, David Morse, Linn Morse & Diane Frazier. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 4:00-8:00PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St. Melrose on Friday, December 15th at 10:00AM, followed by a burial at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Warren's name to the Cornerstone Hospice Home, 601 Casa Bella St., The Villages, FL 32162.
