Virginia A. "Ginny" Ehlers, of Melrose, died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Oct. 13, 2016 at the age of 70. Ginny was born in East Boston, raised in Belmont, a graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1956 and went on to graduate of Secretarial School. Ginny worked as a Traffic Supervisor for the City of Melrose for many years, resided in Melrose for 48 years and loved to spend her time with her children & grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, arts & crafts, antique stores and making quilts for many family members. Ginny collected stamps, coins and anything Victorian. Ginny was the beloved wife of Thomas E. Ehlers for 50 years. Loving mother of Thomas J. Ehlers of Salem, Daniel E. Ehlers & his wife Toni of Saugus and Melissa L. Ehlers of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Alexzandria, Christopher, Laura, Alyssa, Emily and Samantha. Caring sister of Earl McBride of Boston, Kenneth McBride & his wife Jeanne of Framingham, Patricia Galvin & her husband Brian of Belmont and Marybeth McBride of Beverly. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Oct. 17 from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 18th at 10:00 AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd, #300, Frisco, TX 75034.
