Thomas P. Murphy, of Melrose, passed away on February 18, 2017 at the age of 62. Tom was born in Malden and raised in Melrose. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Grammar School, Melrose High School, and Boston State College. Tom also served his country as a member of the United States Marine Reserves. He was a longtime member of the Melrose Elks and played for the Elks Golf Team. Tom loved golfing, and was also an avid Boston sports fan. In his spare time Tom enjoyed reading and always attended his nieces & nephews sporting events. Tom will be remembered around Melrose as a friendly man who always had a smile on his face. He was the son of the late John J. & Helen M. (Connor) Murphy. Brother of Joseph Murphy, Mary Murphy, Theresa LeBrun, William Murphy, Judith Kossuth, Annette Murphy, the late John Murphy, and the late Andrew Murphy. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at 9:00 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
