Robert Leo "Bob" DeYoung passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on January 19, 2017 at the age of 81. Bob was born on August 25, 1935 to the late Leo & Elizabeth (Fougere) DeYoung. He was raised in Cambridge and Arlington, graduated from Arlington High School in 1953 and has been a resident of Melrose for the past 54 years. Mr. DeYoung worked as a purchaser of medical instruments for the AVCO & Kontron Companies for many years. Bob loved the outdoors, was a longtime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and enjoyed hiking, skiing and rock climbing. He also enjoyed the opera and classical music. Bob was known for his big bear hugs, his kind nature and was considered by his siblings as the patriarch of the DeYoung family. Mr. DeYoung was the beloved husband of 54 years to Paula C. (Quinlan) DeYoung. Loving father of Kimberly DeYoung & her husband Davis Jack of Lynn. and Michelle DeYoung of NYC. Devoted brother of Yvonne Zinfon of Arlington, Elizabeth Schipani of Cambridge & Edward DeYoung of Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to Mystic Valley Elder Services, 300 Commercial St. #19, Malden, MA 02148.
