Margaret H. (Hines) McKean, of Melrose, died at the Life Care of Stoneham on Jan. 19, 2018 at the age of 80. Margaret was born & raised in Roxbury and a graduate of St. Patrick's High School. She resided in Dorchester for 5 years and the past 53 years in Melrose. Margaret worked as a Secretary for American Mutual Insurance Company in Wakefield for 16 years before her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Melrose for over 50 years and loved crossword puzzles, reading and going out for breakfast with her family. Margaret enjoyed going on a cross country road trip in 2004 and also trips to Bermuda, Florida, Nevada and Canada. She was the beloved wife of the late James D. McKean for 44 years. Devoted daughter of the late Wallace & Lena (Hicks) Hines. Loving mother of Helena A. Bender & her husband Christopher of Tewksbury, James D. McKean, Jr., of Arkansas, Nancy J. McKean of Melrose and the late Edward P. McKean. Cherished grandmother of Mark & Sean Bender of Tewksbury. Caring sister of Arthur Hines & his wife Rose of Buzzards Bay and the late Joseph, Roy & Bernard Hines and Theresa Foley. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Jan. 22nd from 4-8PM. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 23rd at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
