Kenneth Douglass Crowell passed away at home in Melrose on November 6, 2016. He was 80 years of age. Ken was born in Malden on November 30, 1935 to the late Kenneth J. & Edythe (Lewis) Crowell. He was raised in Malden & Melrose, attended Riverside Military Academy in Georgia and then graduated from Melrose High School, where he was a talented athlete and named sportsman of the year during one of his sporting seasons. Mr. Crowell served his country with pride in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated in the top 10 of his engineering class at Northeastern University and went on to work as a mechanical engineer at Corning Glass in NY, Westinghouse in Boston and for Capital Engineering in Newton. He and his wife Ruth lived most of their lives in Melrose, enjoyed spending summers the past 30 years at Belgrade Lake in Belgrade, Maine and spending winters in Boynton Beach, Florida. While summering in Maine Ken enjoyed going out on his boat fishing, he enjoyed computers and going to the horse races. Mr. Crowell was very involved in youth sports in Melrose; he was past president of the Churchill American Baseball League, he helped formulate the Melrose Youth Hockey group and was one of the directors and an announcer for Melrose POP Warner. He was also a spotter for the Melrose High School Football Team for several years. Kenneth was the beloved husband of 59 years to Ruth A. (Bennett) Crowell. Cherished father of Douglass Scott Crowell, Kenneth Gregg Crowell and Glenn Lewis Crowell & his wife Marie all of Melrose. Caring brother of Barbara Ann Crowell of Melrose.
