Joseph Hinchey Jr. passed away at The Elmhurst Health Care in Melrose on Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was 81 years of age. Joe was born on April 4, 1937 to the late Joseph & Louise (Riley) Hinchey. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1954 and from Boston College in 1958. Mr. Hinchey entered the US Navy in 1958 and served his country with pride during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he worked as an industrial mechanic at Gillette for over 10 years and then for the Malden Public School System for 15 years. Joseph was a lifelong resident who enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving and wood burning. Mr. Hinchey treasured the times spent with his family at Newfound Lake in New Hampshire. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Eileen M. (Mongeau) Hinchey. Loving father of Michael Hinchey & his wife Kelly of Melrose, Kenneth Hinchey of Wakefield, Kevin Hinchey of Northboro and the late Edward Hinchey. Cherished grandfather of Cole, Rachel, Max, Jake, Samantha, Sherilyn & Jason. Caring brother of Marylou Bowen of Longmeadow. Also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 5:00-8:00PM. Funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday morning July 6th at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose at 10:00AM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's name to the Melrose Veteran's Fund, payable to City of Melrose, attn: Veteran's Donation Fund, 562 Main St. Melrose, MA 02176.
