Jeffrey R. Brogan of Melrose died unexpectedly on February 14, 2018 at the age of 58. Jeff was born in White Plains, NY on April 10, 1959. He was raised in White Plains, NY and graduated from White Plains High School in 1976 where he excelled in wrestling and baseball. He attended Northeastern University and graduated from Salem State University with a degree in Business Management. Jeff worked at the Boston Company for many years where he met his wife, Jill, before becoming a stay at home dad and devoting himself to raising his two children. For the past five years, he worked at Whittemore Hardware helping his customers deal with their problems and providing expert advice on a wide variety of home repair projects. Jeff was an avid runner and a member of the Melrose Running Club. He was very proud and excited to have qualified for the upcoming Boston Marathon and had devoted himself to a strenuous training regimen in preparation. Besides being a dedicated father and care giver, he was heavily involved in Melrose youth sports, coaching soccer, baseball, and basketball. One of his overriding principles was his conviction that every player participate equally in the sport regardless of ability. Jeff enjoyed working around the home and was extremely handy, He also loved photography and was a voracious reader. He was passionate about any sport on all levels and had a knack for offering insightful commentary seconds before the TV commentator would voice the same point. Mr. Brogan was the beloved husband of Jill (Gabrielle) Brogan and loving father of Tim & Natalie Brogan of Melrose. Devoted son of Robert Brogan of FL & the late Sarah (Hesser) Brogan. Caring brother of Richard Brogan of CA and Scott Brogan & his wife Geri of White Plains, NY. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, Feb. 20th from 4-8PM. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 21st at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Melrose Emergency Fund c/o Mayor's Office, 562 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176.
