James J. Babineau, Jr., of Reading, formerly of Melrose, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on Dec. 16, 2017 at the age of 64. Jim was born & raised in Somerville and a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1971. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Boston State Teacher's College in 1975 and his Master's degree from Northeastern University in 1978. He was a Math Teacher at the Melrose High & Junior High School for 35 years before his retirement at the age of 58. Jim was a past Treasurer & President for the Mass. Teacher's Assoc., for 15 years and also a Sealer for Weights & Measures for the towns of Melrose & Wilmington. He was an Adjunct Professor in Math for North Shore Community College and enjoyed hockey, reading, history, space, current events, going out to eat and his daily newspaper. Jim loved family gatherings & holidays, spending his time with his wife Mary Anne taking day trips to New Hampshire & Maine and his family was the most important part of his life. He was the beloved husband of Mary Anne (Botte) Babineau for 40 years. Loving father of Sandra M. Babineau-Wilder & her husband Raymond of Reading, Julianne Carteiro & her husband Antonio of Saugus, Andrea Babineau & Michael MacPherson of Revere, Jeanine Peixoto & her husband Fabio of Saugus, Nicole Babineau & Bryan Deming of Saugus and Mary Ricci & her husband Christopher of Weymouth. Cherished grampy of Brianna, Aubrey, Isaiah, Alexandra and Caleb. Caring brother of Patricia Blair of Melrose and Darryl Babineau of IL. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, Dec. 21st from 4-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading on Friday, Dec. 22nd at 10:30AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
