George A. Glines, M.D., of Charlestown, died peacefully on October 6, 2017 at the age of 91. Dr. Glines was born in Somerville on February 5, 1926 to Walter & Harriett (Ferris) Glines. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably during WWII, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After the war, George earned a Doctorate Degree in Pediatrics and opened his own practice. Dr. Glines began practicing in Melrose in 1959, at offices on Porter Street in Melrose, next to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He practiced in Melrose for 39 years before relocating to Wakefield in 1999, before retiring in 2000. Over the course of his 41 year career he cared for thousands of children, and in many cases the parents of the children were once patients of Dr. Glines as well. He worked very hard throughout his career, always early to work and late to leave. He experienced many changes in the field of medicine over his career, and was thankful that by the end of his career he didn't see as many serious illnesses as in the early years of his practice. Dr. Glines was the beloved husband of Ann (Dowling) Glines of Charlestown. Loving father of Gary Glines & his wife Gail of Hull, Brad Glines & his wife Mary of Plymouth, Roger Glines of FL, Sidney Jenkins & his wife Allison of Hamilton, Michael Jenkins & his wife Barbara of Hollis, NH, Kelli Goulian & her husband Matthew of Melrose, Thomas Jenkins & his wife Tonia of Malden, Lee Jenkins of Gloucester, and Shawn Jenkins & his wife Heather of Charlestown. Also survived by sixteen loving grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visiting Hours will be held on Tues., Oct. 10, from 4-8 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, ... READ MORE →
