Catherine P. (Harrington) Boyd passed away at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester on December 16, 2018. She was 88 years of age. Catherine was born in Somerville, on June 17, 1930 to the late Daniel & Nellie (O'Neil) Harrington. Catherine was raised in Somerville, graduated from St. Clements High School in Somerville and from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Boyd worked as a registered nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital for over 35 years. She also volunteered for the Red Cross and assisted the Melrose School system administering eye exams every year in the elementary schools and at the high school. Catherine was a longtime member and golfer at Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose, enjoyed going to St. Kitts every year with her Bellevue friends, traveling to Florida every March and the trip she took to Ireland. Mrs. Boyd was an avid reader, enjoyed reading mystery books, was excellent at Jeopardy and would do the New York Times crossword puzzle every Sunday morning. Catherine was the beloved wife of 64 years to Dr. Edward R. Boyd. Loving mother of Ellen M. McIntosh & her husband Jeff of NH, Elizabeth A. Garrett of WA, Michael E. Boyd & his wife Karen of Stoneham, Maura L. Feener of Gloucester, Peter F. Boyd & his wife Cathryn of Methuen, Amy C. Conley of NH and Martha L. Wightman & her husband Bill of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Danielle & Courtney, Joseph & Daniel, Sarah & Emily, Molly, Megan and Jillian. Proud great grandmother of Carter, Grant & Michael. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 5:00-8:00PM. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home, on Thursday morning December 20th at 10:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 11:00AM. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
