Shirley A. Boyle, 65

Enjoyed family, friends, the Beatles, her dogs and summers at York Beach, Maine

Shirley A. (DeAmato) Boyle, 65, of Melrose, passed away at home with her family at her side, peacefully, on 4/10/2020, after years of battling multiple cancers. A three-time survivor of breast, lung and then lung, bone and brain cancers.

Born on August 3, 1954 to the late Carmen and Edith (Rossi) DeAmato, Shirley, was the youngest of four children, raised in Somerville and graduated from North Cambridge Catholic. She moved to Melrose with her husband of 44 years, Mike, in 1976, where together they would raise their two sons, Derek, 41 and Joshua, 38.

Shirley was a stay at home mother until the boys were in Junior High School. She was employed by the City of Melrose for 19 years, and retired as the Assistant Treasurer, in 2012. A job that she loved and spoke of how much she missed, often. She worked nights for then, Cerratani's, and now Shaw's, in the earlier years as the boys were growing up.

She was devoted to her boys and you could always hear her (loudly) cheering them on at their soccer games from the sidelines, whether it was in Melrose or at their respective College teams (St. Michael's and Assumption).

She is survived by her husband, Mike, her son Derek and his wife Sarah of Belmont, and Joshua and his girlfriend, Melissa of Boston. She was the loving sister of deceased Rosalie Fedele and her husband Louie, Tewksbury; John and his wife Susan of The Villages, Florida; and Joseph and his wife Rachelle, of Melrose; her sister-in-law Ann Cussen and her husband Rich from Kingston, Ma., and brother-in-law Phil and his wife Bobbie of Sarasota, Florida. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews and her large family of cousins. One of Shirley's passions was hosting this large family, which she did every Christmas Eve, Italian style, and at the annual Rossi Family Picnic in her yard.

My heart goes out to Mike, Derek and Josh and all Shirley's extended family. She was a wonderful unique person who I watched for years be the most positive encouraging cheerleader for our boys soccer teams. She will be missed by many.
